In the start-up phase of our business, I focused completely on all aspects of product development, production, and sales launch - to the detriment of my office organization. This began to affect my productivity as I could not always find what I needed. The four hours we spent
organizing my office cubicle had such a great impact on my work life:
Having been through numerous
time management seminars, it can be hard to go back and apply general ideas
effectively. The first hour of our meeting, where we spent reviewing my average
day and then setting up computer systems, was the BEST time management training
I've ever experienced. It was so focused on my situation vs. general suggestions.
The action and reference
file systems we set up are working out GREAT. I've tried action and reference
systems before. However, this system is personalized to my needs so it didn't
take long for the systems to become a habit.
The "homework" you left
for me to do on my own time was completed in two hours. I thought it would
take days!
Speaking of days, I spent
at least five Saturdays "organizing" before our meeting. I wish I would have
met with you first for four or five hours, and then spent one Saturday implementing
your suggestions. You showed me how to FOCUS on what my goals are and how
to set up a working system.
I'm a creative person
in a very structured environment. Thank you so much for helping me come up
with a system that works for me, but that also works in my professional life.
Finally, I want to thank
you for your listening skills, your attention to the budget, and your ability
to set up an office system that was so geared toward my individual needs.
I was expecting a "cookie cutter" approach, and your people skills really
assisted me in organizing my space in a way that feels very comfortable and
natural to me.

Dear Emily,
I wanted to write you
a quick note to let you know how much I appreciate your time and energy in
helping me get organized. The transformation of both my bedroom and my office
is so complete that I can scarcely recognize either -- though I can find anything
now!
My office is a space
I'm proud of now, which is no small accomplishment since customers stare at
it every day. What a relief no longer to be embarrassed by the sheet of plywood
I threw over the bookcase to make a table! By the way, by putting that bookcase
in my home closet, you so neatly arranged all of my photo and craft supplies
that I finally started some long-neglected projects.
Finally, I appreciate
your concern to stay within my budget. The few dollars we went over I gladly
claim as my responsibility since there were those few little things I just
had to have (the nightstand, for example!). Your creative solutions, your
persistence in clearing through my papers, and your attention to detail made
the entire experience (which I'd been dreading) a pleasure instead.
